What we love about Jubilee
Our Space
Jubilee’s main sanctuary doubles as a dining hall on Wednesdays, a
banquet hall on weekends, a badminton court or a place to display
crafts, eat ice cream or race cub cars.
Our Membership Involvement
Jubilee celebrates and uses the gifts of all is members: women and men,
children and adult, young and old. Together, we lead worship, dance,
sing, play instruments and pray.
Our Artistic Gifts
Jubilee members write, sculpt, paint, dance, act, sew, forge and
design, to make our liturgies and our worship experiences visual and
sensory delights.
Our Inclusiveness
Men and women at Jubilee are ordained to all offices of the church and
participate in all aspects of congregational life. Children who profess
their faith to a pastoral elder are invited to participate in the
sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.
Our Decision Making
Since the beginning, we have made decisions – both in the congregation
and in council – through consensus. It’s time-consuming, but worth it.
Our Leadership Structure
Jubilee’s Council, Pastorate and Diaconate are unique opportunities for
us to identify and make efficient use of our particular spiritual
gifts.
Our Atmosphere
Jubilee members are welcoming and friendly. We stay for coffee and
refreshments after church, and we celebrate birthdays and achievements
together.
Our Risk-Taking
In worship and in congregational life, Jubilee members are excited by
new ideas. We are willing to take risks, and we like to experiment with
something new.
Our Jubilee Family Night
On Wednesday evenings, we meet at 6:00 pm for a congregational supper
($9.00 per family, $2.50 per person, all you can eat) followed by GEMS,
Cadets, Youth Ministry, faith formation classes, adult education and Bible
study. It’s a much-loved Jubilee tradition.
Our Informality
Sunday services are relaxed and comfortable. Children colour or do
puzzles on their age-appropriate activity boards, babies are nursed or
cuddled, children are visibly and audibly present. We greet each other,
we laugh, we cry, we hug, we smile.
Our Prayer Ministry
Jubilee has a committed and active prayer team. Our activities and
decision-making are bathed in prayer, and every worship service is
followed by an invitation to personal prayer with a member of the team.
Our First Fruits
Each year, Jubilee members prayerfully commit to specific annual
giving, and these first fruits pledges are given consideration in the
budget preparation process.
Our Gift of Education
Jubilee members are well-educated (almost 70% have post-secondary
education) and we value both Christian education and the educational
programs of our church.
Our Community Involvement
Jubilee members are also active in ministries outside of our
congregation and the denomination, such as CRWRC disaster relief,
Kairos prison ministry, Koinonia retreat ministry, Out-of-the-Cold
shelter ministry, Marriage and Engaged Encounter and various service
clubs. Jubilee also hosts a summer day camp called Camp SHOUt! for
neighbourhood children in the summer.
