Psalm 130 says:
I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope.
My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.
O People of God, put your hope in the Lord for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption.

O God our rock, our strong defence
Our hiding place, in every trial
Though mountains fall, and oceans roar
Nothing shall I fear, nothing shall I fear
Nothing shall I fear O Lord
A river flows, beneath your throne
Within these walls, we stand secure
You lift your voice, the nations fade
Soon you will return, soon you will return
Soon you will return to save
Our God, fortress for the weak
Help in time of need, strong deliverer
Our God, with us in the storm, with us evermore
Mighty Lord of all
Come now behold, the deeds of God
His reign of peace in all the earth
He breaks the bow, an end to war
Be still before the Lord, be still before the Lord
Be still before the Lord most high

O God of the still, small voice, quiet our inner spirit.
Help us to focus upon You, and You alone, to hear Your voice within.
There are so many other voices demanding our attention.
But we cannot attend to them without You….
Be still and know that I am God,
You say to us as You said to Elijah….
May Your voice speak through us.
In weakness, be our strength.
In poverty, be our wealth.
In depression, be our joy.
In apathy, be our love.
We cannot sing Love’s song, O Lord,
unless it be Your voice singing in us.
Take this heart, and with this mouth
make Your praise and thanksgiving a reality here and now.
Because of, and in the name of our Messiah, Jesus. Amen.
Call to Confession:
This season of Lent – 40 days that lead us to Easter – reminds us of the 40 days Jesus spent in the wilderness. It’s a time of noticing, both what’s around us and what’s within us. And it can be challenging, because it’s here in our inner wilderness that we often wander – desolate, deflated, and desperate.
But it’s in these desert where we grow. Where we can’t hide. Where we can’t rely on our own devices. So we bring ourselves before God. We cry out, and we ask for refreshment to be revealed.
Prayer of Confession
Words of Assurance:
You are not alone. You are held in the palm of God’s hand.
His love never gives up on you.
Beloved, there is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But the one who fears has not been made perfect in love.”
So hear the good news: in Jesus Christ we are sought, we are found, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God!

Song of Preparation
Scripture Reading: Matthew 17: 1-9
Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. Then Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if you wish, I will make three dwellings here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud a voice said, “This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to him!” When the disciples heard this, they fell to the ground and were overcome by fear. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Get up and do not be afraid.” And when they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus himself alone. As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus ordered them, “Tell no one about the vision until after the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”
